Ashcombe Road
We were appointed by the client to extend the existing ground floor plan to the rear and to the side to extend the current open plan kitchen/dining/living space as well as improve the existing loft space which has partially been converted in a previous development.
The new extensions would read as one continuous form with matching materials, height and fenestration details, however the internal space will be segregated internally. The rear element will replace the existing conservatory to create an informal dining area and relax space. The side extension will be a new lounge area with full height glazing to maximise natural light and will also accommodate a Jacuzzi and shower area. The new flat roof is designed to contrast against the unique rear elevation which has three gable walls, it is to have a sedum roof to improve the outlook from the first and second floor windows.
Although the existing loft space is quite generous on plan, the usable area with clear head height is very limited which results in the awkward spaces around the staircase and bed. Our proposal was to extend the existing flat roof at the top of the house out to the central gable wall, creating another 10sqm of usable space. This frees up enough space to accommodate an ensuite and walk-in-wardrobe as well as a usable space around the bed itself.
