This 1920s house has had numerous alterations to the existing building over the past 100 years including an extension over the garage and two rear extensions.
KJC architects were approached to rectify some of the previous work and unify the internal layouts. The existing extension over the garage is presently at a different level than the rest of the building and has a limited head height, therefore we propose to change the existing floor to match the original first floor and replace the existing flat roof with a new roof pitched to match the original roof. This will eliminate the reduced head height as well as creating an unbroken floor finish throughout the first floor.
Originally there was two small rear extensions which were built at different times and although the create additional floor space they are not linked together cohesively. Therefore we proposed to demolish one rear wall and one side wall to create an open plan, kitchen/living/dining space. The proposals also included a small utility and a WC with new access from the garage to garden.
