Manor Wood Road
KJC were appointed to design a small infill rear extension at Manor Wood Road in Purley. The brief was to produce a contemporary open plan kitchen / dining-space that took advantage of the views of its hillside location whilst integrating with the aesthetics of the existing house.
The extension has a modern asymmetric roof form and white rendered walls to blend with the existing house. A corner bifold glazing with flush threshold opens fully allowing the kitchen diner to flow out onto the terrace with stepped planters leading down onto the lawned garden.
During the consultation, the client described their hallway as dark with poor levels of natural light. KJC suggested that a stair reconfiguration to create a double height entrance space would allow natural light in whilst providing a grand entrance lobby and this was added to the brief.
This project was completed in 2023.
