137-145 High Street Sutton
|
KJC Architects were appointed by Sutton Council to explore the redevelopment potential of two key sites along Sutton High Street, forming part of a wider town centre regeneration initiative.
Funded through the Government’s Future High Streets Fund, the project focused on unlocking new opportunities for these prominent yet underutilised buildings. KJC undertook a comprehensive feasibility study, developing a range of proposals including a new civic centre, NHS drop-in facility, university hub, and flexible office and retail spaces. Both buildings are locally listed and situated within a designated conservation area, requiring a sensitive and informed design approach. The proposals carefully responded to the sites’ heritage significance, retaining and enhancing key architectural features while enabling modern, sustainable use. |
In addition to reimagining the buildings’ future use, the scheme included significant upgrades to improve accessibility and performance. Works encompassed the introduction of a new accessible lift to ensure full inclusivity, alongside a new roof, replacement double-glazed sliding sash windows, and a comprehensive façade refurbishment.
The result is a forward-thinking yet contextually responsive strategy that supports the long-term vitality of Sutton town centre, balancing heritage conservation with contemporary needs. |
