Briar Hill
A beautiful period property in Purley where we are extending the footprint but in keeping with the original house. We have designed it to keep with the existing form and materials whilst still enabling a large scale extension to be built to subtly compliment its location and history.
The Briar Hill project in Purley is a sensitive and carefully considered residential extension of a beautiful period property, where the architectural intent was to expand the home while honouring its original style and character. KJC Architects describes the design as one that maintains harmony with the existing building’s form and materials, ensuring the extension complements the property’s historical context rather than overpowering it.
In their approach, the designers at KJC sought to extend the footprint of the house thoughtfully, balancing the need for additional space with a respect for the home’s existing architectural language. This means the new work was conceived to feel like a natural evolution of the original structure—retaining key stylistic cues and material choices so that the extension integrates seamlessly with the whole.
Overall, the Briar Hill project exemplifies KJC Architects’ broader design philosophy of creatively modern yet contextually sensitive architecture. It reflects a commitment to tailoring design solutions that respond to both the client’s brief and the unique qualities of the existing building, resulting in a cohesive home that is both expanded and respectful of its heritage.
