Kynaston
A backland site in Thornton Heath, South London. KJC were appointed to undertake a comprehensive redesign for the site, which had been previously refused planning permission for a large apartment block.
KJC analysed the site constraints and found that houses would be more suitable for this site. Several early concepts were explored before the scheme for two pairs of semi-detached; four dwellings, were presented for planning.
The houses have been carefully considered to reduce the massing at first floor by incorporating a bedroom at ground floor to minimise the impact on the surrounding houses. The site layout has been coordinated to reduce the impact on mature trees and retain vehicular access for each dwelling through a shared surface permeable paving landscape design.
The design is a contemporary interpretation of local architecture and materiality. Internal layouts allow for open plan contemporary living, meeting the current housing trends and needs.
The project is due for planning submission in due course.
