West Park Road, Kew
The brief for this 1900s Victorian house was to improve the thermal fabric of the existing rear extension as well as altering the existing ground floor layout to accommodate a larger kitchen area.
The house has had numerous alterations made over the past century including a loft conversion to create a self contained living quarters. The ground floor has also been extended to create an additional living room. The extension is unique in the way it has rooflights around all four walls, including the abutment wall to the existing house. This was to allow as much natural light as possible throughout the space. However the rooflights are single glazed and provide little to no thermal insulation and areover 30 years old now. We proposed to retain the locations of rooflights but replace them with contemporary double glazed units. We are also proposing to knock an existing wall between the living space and a workshop to maximize the existing space.
The kitchen will increase by approx 5m2, which is achieved by reducing the utility size and removing an unused shower space.
