We recently got photos of one of our finished projects, a property in one of Carshalton's prime locations overlooking the Park. This stunning detached house needed a compete refurbishment as well as a loft conversion and rear extension and the finished article looks absolutely beautiful. The property has 5 bathrooms, each of which is individually styled and stands out as a real feature of this perfect family home. The front elevation respects the local vernacular with form and materiality but the rear is more adventurous with larger glazed openings to maximise the view.

One of members of staff, Stavroula, created this fantastic model of one of our upcoming projects at Mayford Road, Balham. She used a 3D printer to create this finely detailed example of how the brickwork will look once completed. We love it!

Back at the start of 2023 KJC Architects moved into our new premises by Grove Park in Carshalton. We are now based in an old cottage that has been divided into 2 premises. We completely overhauled the original space, creating a new open plan office, as well as a separate meeting room, additional smaller office, kitchen/diner and an outside courtyard. Newlands Avenue is a luxury 4 storey new build house that was completed last year in Radlett, North West London.
The house contains , a passenger lift, car lift, gym, steam room, cinema room, 4 spacious bedrooms, 3 ensuites, golf simulator, an open plan family space and.... it is unique because within the bowels of its basement. It has its own Irish pub. Photos of this to follow!

Buckingham Way in Wallington was completed in 2022 by Riley Construction. The scheme includes a curved bay window seat to over look the garden and exposed timber roof joists over the dining space.

KJCs transformation of Sutton High Street continues with another development to the north of the high street.
The old “Argos” site has been an eyesore for decades. This section of the high street has been in desperate need of regeneration. The Sound Lounge has been a catalyst for the area and this new scheme aims to bring three new boutique restaurants to further enhance the offering of eateries in Sutton.
We’ve recently submitted a planning application for the redevelopment of the site, which proposes to introduce 3 new boutique restaurants on the ground floor and residential on the upper floors.
The planning officers have been incredibly positive with their feedback to date. Fingers crossed we will some positive news in the coming weeks.

KJC have started work on a new development in Thornton Heath which consists of 9 new apartments over 5 storeys. The building is clad in a multistock red brick which is in keeping with the architecture of the area. The generous recessed balconies have feature timber cladding on the soffit and reveals of the windows. The 4th floor has a penthouse apartment which is recessed from the edge of the building, providing a large open terrace. Blackened zinc cladding covers the walls and roof of the mansard section to clearly contrast with the lower floors.

One of our smallest projects to date. A one bed studio apartment on an infill site in Peckham which stands out as a piece of art in the street.
The open plan studio opens out onto a south facing courtyard through curved full height glazing.
The corten lourves provide privacy but also act as a form of solar protection from the south facing site.
Equally the polycarbonate panels to the flank wall of the courtyard allow light to stream in but avoid overlooking from the street or neighbouring properties.

4 years ago, Kevin took the decision to leave his 9-5 job and work on KJC full time. After working on a fold out table in a spare bedroom for several months, he decided to branch out and hire his first employee... and the rest is history. We are now have a team of 10 brilliantly talented members of staff who are working incredibly hard on a huge range of projects across the South East. Onwards and upwards.

We have submitted a pre-planning application for a development of 9 apartments on a site in Croydon. The scheme aims to utilise the incredibly steep topography of the existing site by excavating into the hillside to create an underground car park with a part 2 storey, part 4 storey above.
We are hoping for some positive feedback before submitting the full planning application in the new year.

The KJC team attended an Archery away day with some clients and contractors at the beginning of September. Some outdoor team building in the Kent countryside, thanks to Steve from Robin Hood Events. We were joined by David from Our Building Design, Carl from Egan Lucocq, David from Ash Surveyors and Colin Morris, one of our consultants. Kevin was delighted to be the tournament champion after a show down with David Ashworth. Well done to Eleni, Kevin and Carl for winning the team event. Thanks to all who came along, it was a great day out firing arrows at zombies and dinosaurs. And that is the 'official' archers salute in the first photograph, before anybody thinks we are doing anything else!

The Webb Estate in Purely is the pride and joy of Croydon architecture, with its large plots, unique architectural styles, vibrant landscaping and spacious roads. The conservation area is home to many celebrities and other notable characters within the wider community. Silver Lane offers stunning views over the south facing valley beyond.
This project shows almost a complete demolition of existing building, with a new 450m2 basement to create a leisure pool, spa pool, car parking facilities and car lift, games room, gym, steam room and changing facilities. The existing ground floor footprint is dramatically altered with extensions on both sides and also to the rear with extensive glazing to take advantage of the views beyond. The ground floor accommodation includes a family family space (kitchen/livining/dining), formal dining, cinema room, formal living room, utility, prayer room and office.
The main feature of the ground floor is the stunning spiral staircase within the entrance hallway, which links to the first floor above. This marble stairs will have a contemporary curved glass balustrade to avoid any interruption to the views beyond.
The first floor has 5 generously sized bedrooms all with walk in wardrobes and ensuites. Both the Master suite and one other bedroom will have access onto a terrace to overlook the newly landscaped gardens.

We discovered the original timber and steel trusses from when the building was used as a mechanics garage. We proposed to vault the spaces to create a feature for the space as well as introducing a 4m ceiling height..

One project in Grosvenor Avenue has recently been completed. We suggested early on that that we take advantage of the topography of the site and drop the level of the extension. The result is stunning.

One of our 3 projects along Boundary Road completed at the end of last year. The clients were incredibly open minded about every design proposal we put forward, including the exposed beams due to the low ceiling height and the vertical brick on the rear elevation. The result is stunning.

A video fly through and some renders of one our new projects in Croydon. We have broken up the mass of the two storey side extension by staggering the floor plate, which also impacts on the roof profile, providing a subservient appearance to the main house.
The annex to the rear is clad in western red cedar and has a cantilevered louvred overhang to protect the large glazed openings from overheating due to the south facing orientation.

The original parquet floors have be refurbished to provide a gorgeous finish for several of the ground floor rooms and the new vestibule creates a stunning entrance into the house with a vista through to the garden to the rear.

Submission of a 39 bedroom extension to an existing budget hotel in Chiswick. This development will upgrade the current hotel facilities by making the building fully wheelchair accessible, adding a new breakfast dining area and most importantly include 39 new bedrooms. The design is a part two storey, part three storey extension of the existing building within the perimeter of a former builders yard. The new basement will house the mechanical and electrical plant equipment required for the expansion and upgrade of the existing services as well as 15 new bedrooms.

The scheme includes a stunning open-plan family space with raised terrace to over looking the garden. The spectacular 6.5 metre opening to the rear of the house is broken up with 3 large sliding doors with a tiny 20mm frame, maximising the natural light into the space and view to the garden.
The kitchen has a tactile concrete worktop with psychedelic tiled splash back. This is a theme that is continued throughout the house with decorative tiling in the WC, ensuite and family bathroom.

A great week for planning applications, we received planning approval for a modern 4 bedroom bungalow overlooking The Grove Park and Carshalton Ponds on a backland site off Carshalton High Street. The site is within the grounds of a listed building, a well protected conservation area and an area of archaeological interest.
Due to the site restrictions, the location and orientation of the fenestration was key to the design. The main bedrooms and living space is orientated around a south facing courtyard space to provide privacy to the amenity space.
A special thanks to the efforts of Urban Shape during the pre-planning application stage.
We also recieved approval for two smaller developments in the South London area and submitted 3 new applications. It will be a busy few months ahead.

This client and his family are from Asia and regularly travel around the world, they approached us after searching online to find a practice that could carry out a full service from initial consultation to completion while they were not in the country.
The works included a large single storey rear extension to create an open-plan family space with flush threshold, linking the internal and external spaces.
he new family space is also linked to the original living space at the front of the house with sliding pocket doors that disappear into a new wall which creates the potential to have a fully transient space on the ground floor.
Sliding doors were also used to subtly hide away the utilities and services of the house.

The new basement and extension to this 19th century building has changed how the pub functions on a daily basis. the new seating area opens out onto the external terrace and allows free flow of movement in during the numerous ale festival held at the pub.
We are looking forward to experience the space in the coming weeks.

3 new build zero carbon homes to be built in Perthshire, Scotland in collaboration with Ace Renewable Energies. These 5 bedroom houses are to built outside a small village in rural Scotland and are orientated to maximise solar gains, views of the adjoining countryside and to minimise impact on the adjacent houses.

Large loft conversion of a "tardis" bungalow in Banstead. The new master suite opens out onto a new flat roof section with simple built in storage and a large spacious ensuite. There was also some minor alterations to the ground floor which included a large new rooflight to allow natural light into the core of the house. More photos to follow when the furniture gets delivered.

The new kitchen is transformed from the original lean-to extension which was dark and had no access to the garden. The new extension is bright and spacious with light coming in from the large rooflights and the bifolding doors. Great clients and great project.

A very neat little local project for us. The Hope Pub in Carshalton is unique in many ways, but its ownership is what makes it special. Instead of being run by a large brewery or national chain, The Hope is run by the local community. We are providing services for a Basement and Ground Floor rear extension to one of the best pubs in South London (due to the amount of awards it has won in the past 3 years), including a large new basement to house the incredibly vast casks of ale on offer, new area for billiards table, extended seating area and much needed new toilet facilities.
Can't wait until it is finished until we get paid, in ale and wine!

Another week and another completed project - 75m2 loft conversion to create 3 new bedrooms and large family bathroom which turned this 3 bedroom flat into a 5 bedroom flat with new family bathroom, utility, shower room and spacious kitchen-dining space.

The new kitchen dining space works brilliantly with the full width bi-fold doors and large fixed flat rooflight, which floods the space with natural light. The new shower room is a brilliant example of how to make use of a small space with a walk-in shower and semi-recessed sink, it becomes very practical and feels quite spacious.
The living room has also been upgraded with a new floor and redecoration which also has improved natural light with a new glazed front door. Thanks to Bess Walker and Bar Belle for being amazing clients, with very good style and taste in finishes.

The site is situated on a sloping plot, surrounded by trees, overlooking the River Enbourne with Berkshire countryside beyond. The building is broken into two forms with a bedroom area to the rear and a double-height living/kitchen zone with large south facing glazing to the front. The two forms have alternative tapered roofs which are clad in charred timber, divided with a glazed roof linking the spaces, which should look fantastic when built.

Constantinos graduated from the University of Thessaly (Greece) in 2015 with a Masters in Architecture Engineering. He has also obtained a Masters degree in Urban Design from UCL in 2016.
He has experience in the residential sector, having worked in numerous projects in London and the southern home counties. Through his career he has also worked for J&P Avax, one of the major construction companies in Greece, on the conversion and refurbishment of the emblematic One Athens apartment building in the heart of Athens.
He has particularly worked with existing buildings across London and Surrey. Having worked on various different briefs and across numerous sectors, he has a particular understanding of the clients needs in relation with each respective project.
Constantinos is an associate member of the Royal Institute of British Architects and is registered with the Architects Registry Board.
He will be working on a variety of projects in the office, including a new eco-home in Thatcham in the new year.

He has particularly worked with existing buildings across London and Surrey. Having worked on various different briefs and across numerous sectors, he has a particular understanding of the clients needs in relation with each respective project.
Constantinos is an associate member of the Royal Institute of British Architects and is registered with the Architects Registry Board.
He will be working on a variety of projects in the office, including a new eco-home in Thatcham in the new year.

Meadow Close - Man Cave
The nicest man cave in Croydon...London... UK. This old Annex building has been converted into the ultimate man cave with a bar, relax area, wood burning stove, gym, utility store and shower room. The existing shell of the building has been clad in vertical cedar cladding with a large new opening across the corner with new bifolding doors opening onto the existing patio. The existing ceiling has been removed and the beautiful iron truss structure has been exposed and painted black to contrast with white interior.

Utilising the design of the original extension, we created perimeter rooflights on all four sides of the extension to allow shafts of natural light into the new extension and the adjoining internal rooms. The kitchen extends into the extension to link with the dining space. The joist from the original roof were reused to create shelving within the new interior fabric.
