Our stunning project in Sutton, looking spectacular in the summer sun.

The cantilevered zinc overhang allows for seamless transition between the internal and external spaces.

Thank you to the clients who were adventurous enough to trust our design approach from the outset. Thanks to @home_republic_ltd for the excellent finish and @structuraldesignstudio for their input on the structural design for the cantilever.

Take a look at a couple of our recently added rear extension projects from Beddington Gardens, Carshalton and Buckingham Way, Wallington. Both projects are really creative with the use of bricks to make them stand out from the crowd.

Later this month we will be submitting an application for another new build house in Wallington.

The front elevation respects the local vernacular with form and materiality but the rear is more adventurous with larger glazed openings to maximise the view.

One of members of staff, Stavroula, created this fantastic model of one of our upcoming projects at Mayford Road, Balham. She used a 3D printer to create this finely detailed example of how the brickwork will look once completed. We love it!

Following our recent office move which you can find details about here, we have had some new staff photographs taken. See our People page to find out more about the team at KJC Architects.

Back at the start of 2023 KJC Architects moved into our new premises by Grove Park in Carshalton. We are now based in an old cottage that has been divided into 2 premises. We completely overhauled the original space, creating a new open plan office, as well as a separate meeting room, additional smaller office, kitchen/diner and an outside courtyard. Click here for more details!

Some completed pics of a gorgeous rear extension project in Coulsdon with corner bi-folding doors, vaulted asymmetrical ceiling and double height entrance hall to name but a few of the design elements incorporated into the scheme. Click on our projects page to see the project in full.

Newlands Avenue is a luxury 4 storey new build house that was completed last year in Radlett, North West London.

The house contains , a passenger lift, car lift, gym, steam room, cinema room, 4 spacious bedrooms, 3 ensuites, golf simulator, an open plan family space and.... it is unique because within the bowels of its basement. It has its own Irish pub. Photos of this to follow!

Thank you to Mat @opticmedialondon for the great pics.

Earlier in the year Kevin and Oliver visited the JK flooring HQ in The Neatherlands to see their factory and see their wide range of products. It’s surprising how interesting underfloor heating can be!

Kevin was interviewed by the JK team to enquire why we specify their products and services to our clients.

We are hoping to start on site before Christmas with completion in late 2024!

KJCs transformation of Sutton High Street continues with another development to the north of the high street.

The old “Argos” site has been an eyesore for decades. This section of the high street has been in desperate need of regeneration. The Sound Lounge has been a catalyst for the area and this new scheme aims to bring three new boutique restaurants to further enhance the offering of eateries in Sutton.

We’ve recently submitted a planning application for the redevelopment of the site, which proposes to introduce 3 new boutique restaurants on the ground floor and residential on the upper floors.

The planning officers have been incredibly positive with their feedback to date. Fingers crossed we will some positive news in the coming weeks.

KJC have started work on a new development in Thornton Heath which consists of 9 new apartments over 5 storeys. The building is clad in a multistock red brick which is in keeping with the architecture of the area. The generous recessed balconies have feature timber cladding on the soffit and reveals of the windows. The 4th floor has a penthouse apartment which is recessed from the edge of the building, providing a large open terrace. Blackened zinc cladding covers the walls and roof of the mansard section to clearly contrast with the lower floors.

04.03.22 One of our smallest projects to date. A one bed studio apartment on an infill site in Peckham which stands out as a piece of art in the street.

The open plan studio opens out onto a south facing courtyard through curved full height glazing.

The corten lourves provide privacy but also act as a form of solar protection from the south facing site.

Equally the polycarbonate panels to the flank wall of the courtyard allow light to stream in but avoid overlooking from the street or neighbouring properties.

After working on a fold out table in a spare bedroom for several months, he decided to branch out and hire his first employee... and the rest is history. We are now have a team of 10 brilliantly talented members of staff who are working incredibly hard on a huge range of projects across the South East. Welcome to our new member of staff Oliver Cottle who joined us last month. Oliver studied at the University of Huddersfield, graduating with a Master’s in Architecture in 2017 and has since completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Architectural Professional Practice in 2019 from Kingston university. Head over to our 'About' page and select the'People' tab to find out more about Oliver and our full team.

The KJC team attended an Archery away day with some clients and contractors at the beginning of September. Some outdoor team building in the Kent countryside, thanks to Steve from Robin Hood Events. We were joined by David from Our Building Design, Carl from Egan Lucocq, David from Ash Surveyors and Colin Morris, one of our consultants. Kevin was delighted to be the tournament champion after a show down with David Ashworth. Well done to Eleni, Kevin and Carl for winning the team event. Thanks to all who came along, it was a great day out firing arrows at zombies and dinosaurs. And that is the 'official' archers salute in the first photograph, before anybody thinks we are doing anything else!

07.06.20

The Webb Estate in Purely is the pride and joy of Croydon architecture, with its large plots, unique architectural styles, vibrant landscaping and spacious roads. The conservation area is home to many celebrities and other notable characters within the wider community. Silver Lane offers stunning views over the south facing valley beyond.

This project shows almost a complete demolition of existing building, with a new 450m2 basement to create a leisure pool, spa pool, car parking facilities and car lift, games room, gym, steam room and changing facilities. The existing ground floor footprint is dramatically altered with extensions on both sides and also to the rear with extensive glazing to take advantage of the views beyond. The ground floor accommodation includes a family family space (kitchen/livining/dining), formal dining, cinema room, formal living room, utility, prayer room and office.

The main feature of the ground floor is the stunning spiral staircase within the entrance hallway, which links to the first floor above. This marble stairs will have a contemporary curved glass balustrade to avoid any interruption to the views beyond.

The first floor has 5 generously sized bedrooms all with walk in wardrobes and ensuites. Both the Master suite and one other bedroom will have access onto a terrace to overlook the newly landscaped gardens.

The garden design has been carried out by iEcho landscape design which includes a dedicated barbeque area, garden room, casual seating area, water feature and tiered flower beds to link with the garden beyond.

28.05.20

We were appointed to work on a project in Wallington which was converting an old office building into 4 new 1-2 bedroom flats. When we first met with the client, we asked if we could check out what was above the horrible old ceiling tiles. We discovered the original timber and steel trusses from when the building was used as a mechanics garage. We proposed to vault the spaces to create a feature for the space as well as introducing a 4m ceiling height.. . . .

15.05.20 WE ARE OPEN FOR BUSINESS.

Although we’ve all migrated to our homes, KJC is still working hard on a wide array of projects for our clients at many different stages, concept right through to construction.

15.05.20 A selection of 3D images from a new build project of ours in Croydon, due to start on site in the next couple of months.

12.03.20 Lots of completed projects in the last few weeks. Check out our Projects page to see the latest photographs taken by our photographer Massimo Crisafi, including projects at Marchmont Road - Wallington, Willis Avenue - Carshalton, Boundary Road - Carshalton, Hillside - Banstead, and Compton Road - Wimbledon.

03.03.20 One project in Grosvenor Avenue has recently been completed. We suggested early on that that we take advantage of the topography of the site and drop the level of the extension. The result is stunning.

06.02.20 We are looking for a Part II or Part III Architect to come and join our team. Send your portfolios to [email protected] or contact us for further information. We look forward to hearing from you!

22.01.20 Some new designs for an Eco-house we are working on in Berkshire. The clients have been incredibly creative in their thinking, wanting to use Eco-friendly design elements to create an amazing space, blending in with the local environment.

17.01.20 One of our 3 projects along Boundary Road completed at the end of last year. The clients were incredibly open minded about every design proposal we put forward, including the exposed beams due to the low ceiling height and the vertical brick on the rear elevation. The result is stunning.

20.12.19

19.12.19 Some photos of a project of ours on Salisbury Road which is almost complete. We will get some more photos out in the new year.

26.11.19 A video fly through and some renders of one our new projects in Croydon. We have broken up the mass of the two storey side extension by staggering the floor plate, which also impacts on the roof profile, providing a subservient appearance to the main house.

The annex to the rear is clad in western red cedar and has a cantilevered louvred overhang to protect the large glazed openings from overheating due to the south facing orientation.

16.10.19 A video fly through one of two a contemporary new build designs that we are currently working on. The south facing balconies act as solar shading for the internal spaces below. The dramatic double height entrance and living space allow for a visual both connection vertically and horizontally. #kjcarchitects #newbuild #moderndesign #modernarchitecture #contemporaryarchitecture #london #design #doubleheightspace #openplanliving #kitchendesign #kitchen #grandpiano

11.09.19 Some completed photos of our project of ours on Sandy Lane in Cheam. The house required a complete strip out, from top to bottom, the proposed works included a part single storey, part two storey rear extension, 80m2 loft conversion with new mansard roof. The original parquet floors have be refurbished to provide a gorgeous finish for several of the ground floor rooms and the new vestibule creates a stunning entrance into the house with a vista through to the garden to the rear.

05.08.19

Completed photos of one of our two projects on Waterer Rise in Wallington. The transformation is amazing, the finishes of every space suit their setting brilliantly.

Thanks to Massimo at Crisafi Photography for his great efforts as usual

01.07.19

Submission of a 39 bedroom extension to an existing budget hotel in Chiswick. This development will upgrade the current hotel facilities by making the building fully wheelchair accessible, adding a new breakfast dining area and most importantly include 39 new bedrooms. The design is a part two storey, part three storey extension of the existing building within the perimeter of a former builders yard. The new basement will house the mechanical and electrical plant equipment required for the expansion and upgrade of the existing services as well as 15 new bedrooms.

10.05.19 A little snapshot of another rear extension in Carshalton Beeches about to be submitted for planning in the coming weeks.

02.05.19 Full house refurbishment and extension of this beautiful Victorian house in Carshalton, which lies within the Carshalton Park Conservation Area. The scheme includes a stunning open-plan family space with raised terrace to over looking the garden. The spectacular 6.5 metre opening to the rear of the house is broken up with 3 large sliding doors with a tiny 20mm frame, maximising the natural light into the space and view to the garden. The kitchen has a tactile concrete worktop with psychedelic tiled splash back. This is a theme that is continued throughout the house with decorative tiling in the WC, ensuite and family bathroom. Thank you Massimo at Crisafi Photography for the photographs.

We have submitted a pre-planning application for a development of 9 apartments on a site in Croydon. The scheme aims to utilise the incredibly steep topography of the existing site by excavating into the hillside to create an underground car park with a part 2 storey, part 4 storey above.

We are hoping for some positive feedback before submitting the full planning application in the new year.

Planning submitted for 3 flats in Croydon, using a combination of brick and standing seam metal.

A great week for planning applications, we received planning approval for a modern 4 bedroom bungalow overlooking The Grove Park and Carshalton Ponds on a backland site off Carshalton High Street. The site is within the grounds of a listed building, a well protected conservation area and an area of archaeological interest.

Due to the site restrictions, the location and orientation of the fenestration was key to the design. The main bedrooms and living space is orientated around a south facing courtyard space to provide privacy to the amenity space.

A special thanks to the efforts of Urban Shape during the pre-planning application stage.

We also recieved approval for two smaller developments in the South London area and submitted 3 new applications. It will be a busy few months ahead.

11/03/19

Our director Kevin was invited to participate in a interview with Houzz in relation to his experience of working with listed buildings and asked to advise on how to approach refurbishments and extensions of listed buildings. 28/02/19 - Campden Road Completion photos

Beautiful two storey side and single storey rear extension with extensive loft conversion, clad in a tactile western red cedar cladding.

Thanks for Massimo at maxcrisafi. https://www.maxcrisafi.com/

- Grange Road completion

This client and his family are from Asia and regularly travel around the world, they approached us after searching online to find a practice that could carry out a full service from initial consultation to completion while they were not in the country.

The works included a large single storey rear extension to create an open-plan family space with flush threshold, linking the internal and external spaces.

he new family space is also linked to the original living space at the front of the house with sliding pocket doors that disappear into a new wall which creates the potential to have a fully transient space on the ground floor.

Sliding doors were also used to subtly hide away the utilities and services of the house.

Check out our project page for some of the original concept images - Grange Road

Thanks for Massimo at maxcrisafi. https://www.maxcrisafi.com/

15/01/19 Some completion photos of one of our favourite projects, (its nothing to do with the beer, we promise), The Hope Pub in Carshalton. The new basement and extension to this 19th century building has changed how the pub functions on a daily basis. the new seating area opens out onto the external terrace and allows free flow of movement in during the numerous ale festival held at the pub.

We are looking forward to experience the space in the coming weeks.

18/12/18 KJC Christmas party 2018. Good food, good drink, good company, great way to end a great year.

14/12/18

3 new build zero carbon homes to be built in Perthshire, Scotland in collaboration with Ace Renewable Energies. These 5 bedroom houses are to built outside a small village in rural Scotland and are orientated to maximise solar gains, views of the adjoining countryside and to minimise impact on the adjacent houses.

20/11/18

Large loft conversion of a "tardis" bungalow in Banstead. The new master suite opens out onto a new flat roof section with simple built in storage and a large spacious ensuite. There was also some minor alterations to the ground floor which included a large new rooflight to allow natural light into the core of the house. More photos to follow when the furniture gets delivered.

16/11/12 Another huge loft in Sandy Lane, Cheam. Brilliant combination of steel work and traditional timber frame, to give an expansive space for two large bedroom suites.

25.10.18 Some sneak peeks of a new house design on a spectacular rural (confidential) site. More information to follow in the coming weeks.

09.10.18 Another project completed, this time in Taylor Road in Carshalton. The open plan kitchen-diner opens out onto a full width glazed wall, overlooking the garden. The new kitchen is transformed from the original lean-to extension which was dark and had no access to the garden. The new extension is bright and spacious with light coming in from the large rooflights and the bifolding doors. Great clients and great project.

05.10.18 Another 5* testimonial from another happy client. Simon and Hannah Connor - Park Avenue KJC Architects were incredible. It was our first building project and Kevin helped guide us through it, taking care of problems, keeping us informed of changes and potentially improvements and always on hand to help. We couldn’t have done it without him and we wouldn’t have turned out as well as it did without his care and dedication. We can’t recommend him highly enough.

18.09.18 Another rear extension almost complete at Grange Road in Croydon, more photos to follow when the furniture arrives!! Check out the before and after photos.

10.09.18 Another colossal loft and large scale extension underway at Sandy Lane in Sutton. More pics to follow soon...

04.09.18 We are delighted to welcome our 2 newest members of the KJC team, Jordan and Eleni. The guys will be working on our school projects, as well as a large hotel scheme in Chiswick, 2 new build houses, and new apartment developments in Brighton, Sutton and Horley.

08.08.18 Site inspections today on 3 of our live projects at Brookside, Bondary and Woodstock Road, all should be completed in the next 2 months. Can't wait to see the finished articles.

02.08.18 The finishing touches going into to one of our more smallest projects, Orchard Rise in Guildford, which is small cider fermentation plant for a new cider company in the Surrey Hills.

We can't wait until the first batch of apples are bottled, to sample the "fruits" of our labour.

28.06.18 Another 3 planning applications approved this week different project across South London, from Wandsworth to Croydon and another 3 submitted. Busy times ahead.

08.06.18 We are delighted to introduce our latest member of the team. Ionut Girneata joined us earlier this week and will be working on the several of our new and existing projects, including a another new school project. Welcome Ionut!

A very neat little local project for us. The Hope Pub in Carshalton is unique in many ways, but its ownership is what makes it special. Instead of being run by a large brewery or national chain, The Hope is run by the local community. We are providing services for a Basement and Ground Floor rear extension to one of the best pubs in South London (due to the amount of awards it has won in the past 3 years), including a large new basement to house the incredibly vast casks of ale on offer, new area for billiards table, extended seating area and much needed new toilet facilities. Can't wait until it is finished until we get paid, in ale and wine!

Now, there are loft dormers... and then there are KJC loft dormers. The scaffolding came down on Campden Road earlier this week to unveil a beautifully cedar timber clad loft dormer. A lot done, more to do!!

05.05.18 Another week and another completed project - 75m2 loft conversion to create 3 new bedrooms and large family bathroom which turned this 3 bedroom flat into a 5 bedroom flat with new family bathroom, utility, shower room and spacious kitchen-dining space.

24.04.18 One of our smallest projects to date but a brilliant example of how we can convert something small into something beautiful. The new kitchen dining space works brilliantly with the full width bi-fold doors and large fixed flat rooflight, which floods the space with natural light. The new shower room is a brilliant example of how to make use of a small space with a walk-in shower and semi-recessed sink, it becomes very practical and feels quite spacious.

The living room has also been upgraded with a new floor and redecoration which also has improved natural light with a new glazed front door. Thanks to Bess Walker and Bar Belle for being amazing clients, with very good style and taste in finishes.

Thanks to all the guys at New Comfort for completing this great project.

Thanks to Massimo Crisafi for the photos.

08.03.18 Some renders, images and video of a new eco-home that we have designed in Thatcham, Berkshire. The site is situated on a sloping plot, surrounded by trees, overlooking the River Enbourne with Berkshire countryside beyond. The building is broken into two forms with a bedroom area to the rear and a double-height living/kitchen zone with large south facing glazing to the front. The two forms have alternative tapered roofs which are clad in charred timber, divided with a glazed roof linking the spaces, which should look fantastic when built.

06.02.18 KJC would like to welcome their newest member of their ever-expanding team, Aanisah Chowdhury. Aanisah is a Part I Architectural Assistant who will be working on a new school project in Fulham as well as other exciting projects in the office.

26.01.18 A day of site visits in Croydon (Grange Rd & Campden Road) and Wallington (24 Waterer Rise). All at different stages but all coming along nicely. Due for completion in March and June.

15.01.18 As a relatively new practice we are always looking to work with talented people and in particular talented artist. To spruce up our new office, we have commissioned an up and coming artist to create 3 of our favorite buildings in London. In each of the “scribbles” he has hidden me with my family, which is a very cool touch. #dougieharley #riba #ribaawards #ribalondon #ribaart #architecture #designer #artist#upandcomingartist #dougharley #britishmuseum #nationaltheatre ...The 3rd building is also going to be a cracker. Watch this space. @dougieharley https://www.dougieharley.com

21.12.17 Planning application submitted to two new projects this week, one with a small timber clad rear extension with an obliquely tapered sedum roof and cantilevered window seat. The second application is for a part single, part two storey rear extension with glazed roof and loft conversion. The ground floor is transformed into an open-plan family space with large utility/boot room to the rear, the first floor extension creates a new ensuite to the master bedroom as well as extending the size of two existing bedrooms and the loft space is extended by a hip to gable rear extension and box dormer to create a large bedroom and office space. The house will also have 9 integrated solar panels on the new roof with a new heat recovery system installed to recycle the dead air back into the habitable spaces.

20.12.17 KJC Architects are delighted to introduce and welcome their latest addition to the team, Constantinos Nicolaides.

Constantinos graduated from the University of Thessaly (Greece) in 2015 with a Masters in Architecture Engineering. He has also obtained a Masters degree in Urban Design from UCL in 2016.

He has experience in the residential sector, having worked in numerous projects in London and the southern home counties. Through his career he has also worked for J&P Avax, one of the major construction companies in Greece, on the conversion and refurbishment of the emblematic One Athens apartment building in the heart of Athens. He has particularly worked with existing buildings across London and Surrey. Having worked on various different briefs and across numerous sectors, he has a particular understanding of the clients needs in relation with each respective project.

Constantinos is an associate member of the Royal Institute of British Architects and is registered with the Architects Registry Board.

He will be working on a variety of projects in the office, including a new eco-home in Thatcham in the new year.

20.10.17 Fairway reaches completion... with the exception of the new terrace. Extension and refurbishment of 2 storey side extension with new pitched roof and single storey rear extension to create a large kitchen-living-dining family space to overlook the garden. 2 large rooflights allow light to flood this family space with natural light and also provide light into the play room. The large new beam which supports the new extension has been exposed which clearly defines the area above. The new terrace is to be finished in the new year.
